Government Services Overview

Scales of justice with a lawyer in the background.

The Hoopa Valley Tribal Court serves the Hoopa Valley Tribe and its community by providing a forum for resolving legal matters, protecting the rights and safety of community members, and promoting accountability, healing, and restorative justice. The Court is committed to providing culturally responsive, accessible, and community-centered justice while recognizing the unique needs and traditions of the Hoopa Valley Tribe.

In addition to traditional judicial services, the Hoopa Valley Tribal Court supports specialized programs designed to address the underlying needs of individuals and families involved in the justice system. Wellness Court provides a therapeutic and supportive approach for eligible participants, focusing on accountability, recovery, personal wellness, and long-term stability. Through collaboration with treatment providers, advocates, court personnel, and community resources, Wellness Court seeks to address the underlying factors contributing to court involvement while helping participants build healthier and more stable lives.

The Victims of Crime Program provides advocacy and supportive services to individuals who have experienced crime, violence, or victimization. The program assists victims in navigating the legal system, accessing available resources, understanding their rights and options, and obtaining services that promote safety, stability, and healing. Victim advocates may assist with safety planning, court accompaniment, referrals, protective-order processes, applications for victim compensation and other available assistance, and coordination with law enforcement, tribal and county agencies, and community service providers.

Together, the Hoopa Valley Tribal Court and its specialized programs work to create a justice system that not only addresses violations of law, but also recognizes the importance of healing, victim safety, accountability, rehabilitation, and community wellness. Through these efforts, the Court strives to strengthen families, support victims, reduce barriers to justice, and promote a safer and healthier Hoopa Valley community.
